Adventure on the island. Asinara
One day traveling by boat, we went to the island Asinara. This place attracted us because the whole area is a national park and the famous Stintino beach is located very close. We planned to combine two interesting bright adventures, but it happened that we felt in love with the island of Asinara and the most beautiful beaches faded against its background.
Azinara is not for everyone. I'm sure about it. This is a wild island. We are attracted by the romance of hiking and spending the night under the stars in a sleeping bag, but I am convinced that there are much more fans of star hotels.
If you dream at dawn to jump into crystal water with many fish that are not afraid of you; if you want to dine in a restaurant in the evening and see the silhouettes of snow-white donkeys walking around like fabulous unicorns; if you have always dreamed of being on a desert island and feeling like a conqueror of new lands, there is a chance that you will fall in love with Asinara.
We’ll tell you very soon about where the island is located, how to get there and what you can do for fun. Today I would like to share an excursion conducted by the wonderful Anna Lisa from AsinarAvventura
There are several companies providing excursion services in the national park. We chose the one in which they explained to us how the tour would go and how the price was formed. We sincerely advise you to contact Anna Lisa, but if you decide to try to book an off-road excursion at another agency, then below is a list of questions to ask:
Let’s be friends!
- How long is the excursion?
The duration varies from two hours to a full day with a snack that you bring with you. If the travelers are not only adults, but also children, a full day is not your option. Everyone will get tired.
- How many people are in a group?
Usually a group of 6-7 people is placed in a car. Agree, it is not always convenient to stand by other people, especially if they are traveling without children, and you are with babies.
- What part of the island will we see?
The island covers an area of only 52 square kilometers, but depending on the amount of time you have, you will be offered one of the routes.
We decided to go on an excursion in the evening, when the colors become brighter in the rays of the sunset and, which is very important, the heat is lower. Anna Lisa came to pick us up at Cala Reale. This is where the port is located, and you still remember that we traveled by boat, right? It is to this bay that ferries from Stintino and Porto Torres come and it is here that one of the restaurants existing on the island is located. If you do not have the opportunity to get to the island by sea, the excursion will start at the port of Stintino, from there the guests are picked up by a small boat and taken to the tiny port of Fornelli (southern point of Asinara).
The island has a sad history. Infirmary, penitentiary, POW camp and high-security prison, with the smallest escape rooms in the world (one person in 129 years of existence), a place of exile and imprisonment for the most dangerous criminals Centuries that have passed under the heading "top secret". The territory, which was under strict control and it was impossible to get here, and if the opportunity was provided, then those who wished, for obvious reasons, did not appear.
But this is precisely the advantage of the hermit island. It is pristine, wild nature. During the excursion, we heard not only interesting historical facts, entertaining stories about how the island "lives" today, but also many clarifications and explanations about the flora and fauna. Anna Liza has prepared a book for children with illustrations of animals and plants that can be found at Azinar. Nicole and Leo studied it with interest and tried to find birds, donkeys, mouflons, wild boars ...
The tour took several hours. We did not have time to get tired, but again fell in love with the mysterious island, to which we want to return again and again.
